Become the Next Great Writer
Write it down! Talk to the world. Accomplished writers, whether they’re known internationally or in smaller professional circles, are more likely to achieve any dream… and then some. You want to grow your business – write. Submit your next promotion – write. Get a job or a new job – write it down. People look up to the successful among us. They join those who have done it. Hire, promote, or buy an expert who has proven to be a leader and shaker in their field. are you
What to write
You are an expert. Something, maybe many things that you really like or know a lot about. Putting your thoughts on the page will give your work credibility, help your fellow man in an area they need to learn or improve, and make you feel good when it’s published. your job.
Focus less on becoming the next multi-million dollar author of Harry Potter and more on being yourself. If you’re not a storyteller, maybe fiction isn’t your domain. Plus, if you don’t want to switch careers to become a full-time writer, there’s little you can do to help your current career. Write fiction; ie, how-to, what-to-do, knowledge, and knowledge components that help others understand what you know. Don’t worry about writing yourself out of work, just think if you write you won’t need it. Instead, you become a resource for your clients and colleagues.
How to Publish
“You should write a book” is a common word in the American dictionary that we hear or say often. Maybe a book is in your future. However, if you are not a current author and have never been published before, this may not be the best place to start. Consider a magazine, journal, newspaper, newsletter, or electronic printer.
There are only two ways to proceed.
The first, and the most common, is to find a need and fill it. Talk to the editor of the publication you want to write for to find out what topics they need. What is little known is that most magazines and journals program each issue and often have their Editorial Calendar available, which outlines the topics for the upcoming issues. If your expertise matches an upcoming project, contact the editor to see if you’d be willing to try your hand at a piece for consideration.
Second, there is little way to just write. Find a topic that brings you passion, expertise, and experience and write a great essay. Do it and do it again. You are on your own time – there is no deadline. Look at it again in the next few days or weeks to put “fresh eyes” on it. When you’re close to where you want to be, talk to a trusted advisor for their feedback and feedback. Do it again. Only after the best – trade it. Send it to the editors of journals, magazines, newspapers and magazines to see if they will agree. Don’t just submit it to an editor of a publication. Do your research first and decide if your article will fit in their publication.
I had great success with the latter method; however, fellow writers tell me that the road is less traveled and more difficult to achieve success. With more than a dozen articles published in national journals and many more in state and local journals, I have never seen anything like this.
How long
There are different versions. Broadly speaking, there are three types of text lengths – think short, medium, and long. A common measurement tool consists of a number of words, as opposed to symbols, found with some social media (such as Twitter); or column inches, most commonly found in the newspaper world.
The minimum text is 600 to 800 words. Anything less is not a text; rather, it is an interesting story, a very short story, or a report of an event. After laying it out on the page, adding graphics, ads, or sidebars, the text will fill 600 to 800 words less than the printed page.
Long-form articles are the bread and butter of most publications, ranging from 800 to 1,200 words with an average length of 1,000 words. It fills the printed page or extends to a second page when laid out and enhances the design. It may even extend to the third page, although this is rare. I recommend that you focus your early efforts on targeting this size. This is the perfect size document to get an editor’s attention.
When articles are around 1,200 words long, they will be longer and more effective articles. Most magazines and journals have three or fewer articles per issue. One newspaper per session. And the ads are one per issue. Every writer needs a cover story. You have to get it. History is full of ‘nature.’ Maybe you’re one of them and you can hit it out of the park your first time at bat. Most of us benefit from on-the-job training. We make mistakes along the way. Learning. So, improve.
All Writers Hate Editing
Speak volumes. Of course, there should be too much information. It’s easier said than done in the long-term than in the short-term. If you find yourself on the other side of the equation – looking for things to write about – you’ve chosen the wrong topic. For example, after writing, rewriting, revising and tweaking this article, it was 1,557 words (I cut 367 words).
Changing to size is the most difficult part of writing a piece, big or small. Adults separate from children.
Never submit a piece to the world unless you are absolutely certain that your work of art is the best it has ever been. If an article doesn’t reach that level, keep it to yourself until you do.
Professional vs. Amateur
Good people are rewarded. Amateurs don’t. Also, if you want to change careers to become a writer, use it as a supplement to your current career. Focus your efforts on writing the best pieces that can be printed, rather than the hundreds of dollars a paid printer will charge. Success comes with success. The more you produce, the easier it will be to produce. If you’re good, editors will want you. Whether you want to write or you write for your passion, my advice is the same: get a few dozen successful publications under your belt before you think about doing so for money. Become a freelance writer while you can. When you go pro, go fast and make a splash.
Dream big. Choose the most prestigious publication in your field and work your way up to become a regular contributor in it. Your colleagues, current clients, and superiors will all appreciate your accomplishments and give you more success in your chosen career.
Become a writer. Increase your performance. Improve your life.
